SPACE GASS Installation/Upgrade Procedure (for TitanLM Softlock Systems)

SPACE GASS now uses the TitanLM softlock system as an alternative to hardware locks. Using the TitanLM softlock system, you can configure SPACE GASS to run as a floating license system on networks or as a stand-alone system on individual computers. Click here for more information about TitanLM. To install SPACE GASS and TitanLM from scratch or upgrade it to the latest version, you should follow the steps below.

Concise Instructions

Network Systems Stand-alone Systems
Server installation:

Before installing TitanLM, you must decide which computer you wish to use as the server. It will need to be a computer that is running most of the time and accessible to the workstations on your network.

  1. Click here to download and install the TitanLM server program.

  2. Run the TitanLM administrator tool (login with "Login name" = admin and "Password" = admin) and then from the "TitanLM Registration" form (click the Help button and choose Register if it doesn't appear automatically), obtain your server's hardware signature and email it to us at admin@spacegass.com together with the port you wish to use (default port is TCP 34123). If you are replacing an existing hardware lock with Titan, include the number of the lock in your email too.

  3. Save the registration files that you receive by return email into a temporary folder (the location is unimportant) and then from the administrator tool's Registration form, click the Register button and locate the saved registration files to complete the registration.

  4. From the administrator tool's Network tab, add a firewall exception for the port from step 2 above (do this once only), start TitanLM by clicking the "Start TitanLM" button and then close the administrator tool.

Detailed Instructions (for first-time users)

Network Systems Stand-alone Systems
Server installation:

Before installing TitanLM, you must decide which computer you wish to use as the server. It will need to be a computer that is running most of the time and accessible to the workstations on your network.

It is usual to have just one TitanLM server, however if your company has offices in different locations, you may wish to have TitanLM servers in more than one location. For example, you might have 25 copies of SPACE GASS, with 10 copies in one office and 15 in another. You could have a TitanLM server managing the 10 licenses in one office and another TitanLM server managing the 15 licenses in the other office. If the two office networks were connected, you could even share licenses between them. For example, office A could access SPACE GASS licenses from office B and vice-versa.

The TitanLM server installation procedure is as follows:

  1. Click here to download the latest TitanLM installation file and then run the downloaded file to install the TitanLM server program.

  2. At the end of the installation, run the TitanLM administrator tool from its shortcut on the desktop, and login with “Login name” = admin and “Password” = admin.

  3. From the "TitanLM Registration" form (click the Help button and choose Register if it doesn't appear automatically), click the "Get Signature" button to retrieve and display your computer's hardware signature, click the “Copy to Clipboard” button and then paste the signature code into a new email that you will use to request your TitanLM registration files. Note that if you are replacing an existing hardware lock with Titan, include the number of the lock in your email too.

  4. In the email you should also nominate a port on your server that you want TitanLM to use. If you omit this then the TitanLM default port of TCP 34123 will be assumed.

  5. Send the email to admin@spacegass.com.

  6. Once processed, you will receive two registration files by return email that you should save into a temporary folder (the location is unimportant) and then from the administrator tool's Registration form, click the Register button and locate the saved registration files to complete the registration. Note that these files lock TitanLM to your server computer and prevent it from being used on any other computer. If you change or replace your server computer, you will need to repeat the previous steps to request a new registration.

  7. Open the port that you specified in step 4 above by selecting the administrator tool’s Network tab, typing the port number in the “Port” field of the “Add Windows Firewall Exception” area and then clicking the “Add Exception” button (leave the other fields at their default values). Note that this doesn’t need to be done again, even if you upgrade to a newer version of TitanLM in the future.

  8. Click the “Start TitanLM” button in the bottom-right corner to start the TitanLM server.

  9. When a green tick appears above the “Start TitanLM” button, close the administrator tool.

This completes the server installation procedure. TitanLM should now be running and ready to accept requests from SPACE GASS. You should now complete the client installation below for each computer that you wish to run SPACE GASS on.

Client installation:

The client installation must be done on each computer running SPACE GASS. It can also be done on the computer that has the TitanLM server installed if you also wish to run SPACE GASS on that computer.

The TitanLM client installation procedure is as follows:

  1. If SPACE GASS 10 is already installed, click here to download the SPACE GASS patch file and then run the downloaded file to upgrade SPACE GASS to the latest version.

    Or

If SPACE GASS is not installed, click here to download the SPACE GASS installation file and then run the downloaded file to install the latest version of SPACE GASS.

  2. If you upgraded SPACE GASS and you are changing over from a hardware lock system to Titan, you should delete the sgreg.dat file in your SPACE GASS program folder (usually "c:\Program files\SPACE GASS\Exe"). Skip this step if you installed SPACE GASS from scratch in the previous step.

  3. Run the TitanLM client tool (TitanClientTool.exe) from your SPACE GASS program folder (usually “c:\Program files\SPACE GASS\Exe”).

  4. Set up a connection to the TitanLM server by selecting the Connection tab at the top and then filling in the details in the blank “Add a server” field near the top of the “Server Connection” table and then press the keyboard Enter key.

“Name” is any descriptive name that you can choose to describe the server that you are connecting to. If you have more than one connection, the server name is simply a convenient name that you can use to differentiate between them.
“Protocol” is the network communication protocol and must be TCP/IP.
“Host/IP” is the network name or IP address of the server. Note that you can use “localhost” if the TitanLM server and client are on the same computer.
“Port” is the port number that was used during the TitanLM server installation and is usually 34123 (it is displayed in the TitanLM administrator tool Reports tab).
“Timeout” is the time after which a query or request from SPACE GASS is rejected if the server is busy or has stopped running, or if there is a network problem.

  5. Test the connection by clicking the “Test Connection” button. If successful, a green tick will appear next to the button.

  6. Note that if you have multiple TitanLM servers (in different offices for example), you could also add connections to them by repeating steps 3 and 4 above.

  7. When finished, close the client tool.

Note that if you wish to quickly replicate steps 3 and 4 on other client computers, just copy the TitanClientConfig.dat file from this computer to them.

This completes the client installation procedure. You should now be able to run SPACE GASS.
